Sarah Choudhry
Registered Provisional Psychologist
Hi, I’m Sarah – a Calgary-based Registered Provisional Psychologist specializing in trauma, cultural identity, grief, and life transitions.
With over a decade of experience as a health professional, I’m passionate about providing a caring, non-judgmental space where you can explore the challenges you’re facing – whether it’s anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, cultural concerns, childhood experiences, or interpersonal struggles. My goal is to help you reconnect with your inner strength and resilience, even when life feels overwhelming.
I believe that every person holds an incredible capacity for growth and healing. In our work together, I aim to surface the wisdom you already carry within you, while offering the tools, support, and strategies needed to help you move forward.
My approach to therapy is grounded in an understanding of how past experiences – especially childhood trauma, family dynamics, and cultural background – shape the patterns we carry today. I also recognize the powerful influence of systemic, societal, and biological factors on mental health. Together, we’ll work to create a personalized path toward healing that includes self-compassion, reflection, and practical strategies for meaningful change.
I have specialized training in working with trauma and PTSD, particularly through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, one of the most effective treatments for healing deep emotional wounds. I also primarily draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you build a more flexible, empowered relationship with your thoughts and emotions. Depending on your needs, I may integrate approaches from Existential Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to ensure your therapy experience is tailored, supportive, and effective. I am also trained in the gold standard assessment tools for identifying and diagnosing Autism (ADOS 2 and the ADI-R)
In addition to my work as a psychologist, I bring a unique perspective shaped by years as a pharmacist in community, hospital, and humanitarian settings – including time spent with Doctors Without Borders. This background gives me valuable insight into the intersection of mental and physical health, chronic illness, and the complexities of navigating medical systems. I am also listed on the Doctors Without Borders referral list for those preparing to embark on missions.
As a child of immigrants myself, I understand the complex emotions that can come with questions of belonging – within families, cultures, and communities. I recognize the impact of racism, microaggressions, and cultural expectations on mental health, and I am passionate about helping individuals from diverse backgrounds navigate identity, resilience, and healing. Whether you are balancing collectivist and individualist values, healing from childhood trauma, or working through the grief of cultural loss, I offer a space where all parts of your story are welcome.
When I’m not counselling, you might find me at a local café or restaurant, boxing at the gym, dancing at the studio, or enjoying the outdoors through hiking, skiing, or paddle boarding. I love spending quality time with my partner, family, and friends – staying grounded in the connections that give life meaning.
If you are looking for compassionate, culturally aware therapy in Calgary – whether you are an adult, young adult, humanitarian worker, or someone navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, or grief – I would be honoured to walk alongside you.
