Shaina Lehan
Sex Worker-Affirmative Art Therapist
When you are experiencing anxiety, you notice you isolate. You may be navigating substance use as a way to cope with feelings of loneliness. You fear judgment from others and it prevents you from trusting in yourself. You may have experienced the dangers of the job and it causes significant fear that you’ll get hurt. Sex workers have long experienced stigma, and as a result, you may be fearful of finding a therapist who truly understands the situations that you face. If you’ve had negative therapy experiences before, know that therapy sessions with me will look very different.
First, we’ll explore what creates safety and security for you in therapy sessions. Then, we’ll develop grounding strategies to help manage difficult emotions that show up in and outside of therapy. Next, we’ll work on connecting to your gut and developing a deeper relationship with self through art-making. Note that no experience with art-making is required.
Art therapy can help you achieve deeper insight and greater confidence in yourself. I’ve provided mental health support to sex workers in a variety of settings for the past 15 years. If you’re ready to start therapy, head to my website and book a free 15-minute video call. If cost is a barrier, we can discuss therapy options that will suit your budget.
