Dr. Andrew Jacobs, C.Psych.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Knowing when to reach for help can be difficult, and finding the right help can be even harder. I'm here to assist you on this path. I am a licensed clinical psychologist with nearly two decades of experience providing tailored, evidence-based therapies for OCD, anxiety, trauma-related difficulties, depression, and other challenges. My approach to therapy is down-to-earth and collaborative, where we each contribute our expertise. By exploring the strengths, experiences, and goals you bring to our sessions, we can work together to identify the most effective strategies to assist you on your path forward.
In my practice, I primarily use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These extensively researched approaches to therapy often lead to tangible results such as reduced anxiety, improved mood, and more helpful ways to address the overall challenges of daily life.
I completed my Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree in 2007 at the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology (a joint doctoral program administered by the College of William and Mary, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk State University, and Old Dominion University). After completing my doctorate, I continued in postdoctoral training in OCD, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders through McMaster University at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton.
I am a founding and credentialed member of the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies. I have also completed EMDRIA-approved training and consultation in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and incorporate this into my practice where appropriate.
