Zachary Templeman
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Hi! I'm Zach. Thank you for being here.
I have 10+ years experience supporting queer and trans communities through facilitating peer support groups, supporting folks through medical gender transition, and community organizing. I have also worked in harm reduction, psychoeducation, and wilderness therapy.
In my psychotherapy practice, I typically work with folks going through life transitions, having difficulty in relationships, dealing with low self-esteem, or experiencing depression and/or anxiety. The folks I work with often find that patterns or feelings from their past are coming into their present in ways that no longer serve them.
Since we often experience hurt and harm in the context of relationships, I believe we can also experience healing in the context of relationships. You can bring whatever you need or want to talk about to the session and we will work together to make sense of what is happening for you, what patterns to let go of, and how to feel whole.
I am trained in relational psychotherapy, which means that I’ll want to explore your experience of attachments and relationships. We will seek out how you learned to be connected or disconnected in relationships, and in this work, we will discover the assumptions and beliefs you hold based on your life experiences. In our sessions, we will also build a way of relating to each other. This will give you an opportunity to integrate the insights you discover, and to create a space where you can experience something different in relationships.
I understand that larger systems impact how folks are able to navigate their relationships with themselves and others. I understand the necessity of contextualizing client experiences within those systems and I strive to practice therapy in an anti-oppressive and anti-racist way.
When not working, I can often be found gardening, climbing trees, or camping. My love of nature often enters into my work as a therapist because mother nature often provides excellent metaphors and insights into the events and circumstances of our own lives.
