Sukanya provides therapeutic environment that is safe, supportive, and non-judgmental, grounded in compassion and empathy, which allows you to uncover new insights and move at your own pace towards the changes you hope to create. Her approach is collaborative and relational, where clients develop a long-lasting and secure connection in a safe space.
Sukanya is the Founder and Director of Mental Health Colour. She has worked as a clinician with several psychiatric hospitals, clinics, universities, and community organizations. Her academic background includes Master of Science in Clinical Psychology and Neuroscience, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and several clinical certifications in Couples Therapy Treatment (Harvard Medical School), Psychiatry (University of Sydney), and Psychological Interventions (Johns Hopkins University. Sukanya is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (CCTP) from Arizona Trauma Institute and a Certified Grief Counsellor (US).
Sukanya’s area of focus includes trauma (chronic, complex, PTSD, relational, attachment, childhood trauma), anxiety disorder (GAD, OCD, social anxiety etc.), Mood disorders (Depression and Bipolar Disorder), Couples/ Relationship counselling, Personality disorders, LGBTQ+, Anger management, Grief, Stress management and Burnout, Body image, eating disorder and self-esteem.
She offers various evidence based interventions such as in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Advanced Mindfulness Interventions, Trauma informed Couples Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), & Narrative Therapy. As a polyglot (English, Bengali, Spanish, Hindi), she strives to provide culturally sensitive and racially informed therapy to individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds.
In addition to her clinical work, Sukanya is also an Ambassador with United Nations of Canada, representing the National Capital Region, working on Sustainability Development Global goals, policies on mental health and community well-being.
