Shaofan Bu

Psychologist (Supervised Practice)

In individual therapy I work with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, anger, obsessions, and compulsions. I also work with clients who are dealing with consequences of trauma, loss of loved ones, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. Psychotherapy, however, is not limited to challenges and difficulties, it can also be a process to better understand yourself and discover your passion and vitality. In the initial sessions, I try to understand your concerns, history, unique background (e.g., gender, sexual orientation, race), and expectations. I will explain my therapeutic approach, how therapy works, and what you can reasonably expect in terms of treatment outcomes. My therapeutic approach is integrative and draws from psychodynamic traditions, emotion-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and mindfulness approaches. My approach focuses on the psychological roots of your problems, attends to the unconscious, and explores how the past influences the present. I also focus on the relationship that we form together. Patterns that we observe in our relationship are helpful in understanding dynamics in other areas of your life. I obtained a doctorate in Counselling Psychology from McGill University. My supervised practice as a Clinical Psychologist at CFIR in conducted under the supervision of Dr. Dino Zuccarini, C.Psych., and Dr. Lila Hakim, C.Psych.
