Josh Dempsey

Josh is a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor (RTC #2981) and Counselling Therapist (CT #2736) based in Calgary, Alberta. As co-owner of Empowered Life Counselling, he offers online sessions for individuals, couples, and teens (14+), with a focus on intentional living and self-regulation. Josh specializes in Gestalt Therapy and integrates approaches such as Transpersonal Psychology, Bowen’s Family Systems Theory, AEDP, and Somatic Therapy. His work supports clients in building greater self-awareness, navigating trauma, and fostering meaningful relationships—all grounded in cultivating the inner capacity to pause, reflect, and respond with purpose. Josh creates a grounded, compassionate space where clients feel safe and supported in exploring their internal world. His approach empowers people to slow down, listen deeply, and develop the skills to regulate emotions and make choices that align with their values. Before entering the field of counselling, Josh worked in IT, sales, and culinary arts. His own experience of transformation through therapy led him to this work. He is also a Certified Laughter Yoga Instructor and passionate about promoting community-centered mental wellness. Josh holds a diploma in Transpersonal Therapeutic Counselling from Clearmind International Institute, and continues to train in trauma-informed, mindfulness-based, and relational practices.
