Erica Tatham
Psychologist (Supervised Practice)
In individual therapy, I typically work with adults who are experiencing distressing emotions related to symptoms of depression and anxiety. These symptoms can be due to a variety of reasons, such as the loss of a loved one, relationship difficulties, identity issues, neurodevelopmental concerns (such as ADHD and autism), childhood difficulties, traumatic experiences, or difficulties managing a personal illness or the illness of a loved one. I support individuals in finding their personalized pathway to healing to minimize distress and explore the causes of their difficulties. In the first few sessions of therapy, I will listen to your story at a pace that is comfortable for you and we will collaboratively determine your therapeutic goals. I will then provide my professional opinion and we will create an individualized plan to achieve those goals together. I pride myself on providing a very supportive and non-judgemental relationship in therapy, and primarily practice as an integrative therapist who utilizes evidence-based therapeutic interventions including emotion-focused therapy and cognitive-behavioural therapies.
In psychological assessments, I typically work with adults experiencing emotional distress, complex and challenging personality traits, and/or difficulties with their thinking/cognitive abilities due to a condition, illness, or head trauma. The outcome of these assessments helps an individual understand the impact of their condition on everyday life experiences. The process for assessment typically involves an initial interview, questionnaires, possible performance measures, and a feedback session where I make recommendations to improve your everyday life.
I have extensive knowledge on psychological processes as evidenced by my four degrees. I have a B.Sc. in Biology and Psychology from McMaster University, a M.Sc. in Neuroscience from McMaster University, a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from York University, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (Neuroscience specialization) from York University. This training has provided me with fundamental knowledge on emotion processing and the relationship between brain and behaviour.
I also have extensive training and work experience in intervention/psychotherapy and assessment services, such as Toronto Western Hospital, Sunnybrook Hospital, York University Psychology Clinic, and Valentin & Blackstock Psychology Clinic. This training has provided me with fundamental knowledge on emotion processes and the relationship between brain and behaviour. I have shared my expertise in psychology through numerous conference presentations, over 12 peer-reviewed research publications, and while being a course instructor at York University.
I am currently a psychologist (in supervised practice) under the supervision of Dr. Aleks Milosevic, C.Psych. I am also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association.
