Karen Szabo

Karen Szabo is a Registered Psychotherapist and founder of Collective Thoughts Psychotherapy. She specializes in perinatal and maternal mental health, as well as couples and relationship therapy, supporting individuals and families before, during, and after pregnancy and early parenthood.
Karen works with clients navigating anxiety, depression, birth trauma, emotional regulation challenges, identity shifts, and relationship stress during major life transitions. She also supports couples seeking to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and improve emotional connection, particularly during pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting transitions.
Her approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and client-centred. Karen integrates evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. Sessions are paced to each client’s emotional capacity, emphasizing safety, partnership, and meaningful engagement.
Karen’s clinical work is informed by both professional training and lived experience, allowing her to bring empathy, insight, and practical support to the therapeutic process. She values collaboration with medical and allied health professionals and provides care in accordance with CRPO standards and Canadian privacy legislation (PIPEDA).
