Biography

Karen Szabo is a Registered Psychotherapist and founder of Collective Thoughts Psychotherapy. She supports individuals, couples, and families navigating the places where relationships, identity, parenting, and emotional patterns begin to feel hard to carry alone. Her work is especially focused on perinatal and maternal mental health, couples therapy, relationship stress, birth trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, and the identity shifts that can come with pregnancy, postpartum, parenting, and major life transitions. Karen’s approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in the belief that therapy is something clients participate in, not something done to them. She works with clients to slow things down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and build more self-trust, clarity, and steadiness in how they relate to themselves and the people around them. In couples work, Karen supports partners who feel disconnected, stuck in the same conflict cycle, or unsure how to rebuild trust and emotional connection. Her work is not about taking sides or rushing decisions. It is about helping couples understand the pattern they are caught in and begin relating to each other differently. Karen integrates evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, EFT, IFS, and the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. Sessions are paced with care, while still creating room for honest reflection, meaningful movement, and practical change. Her clinical work is shaped by both professional training and lived experience, allowing her to bring warmth, depth, and real human understanding to the therapy process. She offers in-person sessions in Innisfil, near Barrie, and secure virtual therapy across Ontario.
