Biography
Alan Boden M.A. RCC Registered Clinical Counsellor (#2301) I provide comprehensive and supportive mental health counselling, with caring, useful strategies to help you move forward in your life; whether in person, or virtually around the province. I work with individuals, youth, couples, parents and families that are needing some help or guidance I can help you with: • Anxiety/Depression • Low Self-Esteem • Career/Life Transitions • Grief and Loss • Skill building around regulating feelings • Eating Disorders I also specialize in the following areas: Marriage and Relationship Counselling: I focus on building relationship skills that help people develop new strategies to make relationships emotionally safer, healthier and even rekindle that desire to be in your current one. Addiction Issues: I use a best practices model of understanding and treating problematic substance use and behaviours getting in the way of your better life. This can include pornography, food, alcohol, drugs and gambling problems. I am a certified substance abuse expert –having even taught addiction counselling to other counsellors. I have also studied as a gambling addiction counsellor. I am familiar with, and work with people in 12 step recovery. Recovery from Traumatic Experiences: I provide a supportive environment for healing from traumatic experiences. I have worked extensively with people trying to deal with past traumas and are struggling. Those experiences can include accidents, abuse, violence, and loss. Historical experiences can really carry forward in one’s life and create a lens that colours the experiences in ways you have a strong sense of, but are struggling to manage. Parenting: I work with both youth and families who are stuck in problematic relationships at home. I have solid and productive relationships with parents and the youth that I work with – helping folks to manage many of the issues parents, youth and families are contending with. I use the following therapeutic modes of psychotherapy/counselling: • Cognitive Therapy • Solution-Focused Counselling • Narrative Therapy • EMDR This is a saying that resonates with me and with my work: “life is hard – but the suffering is optional.”
