Kim Silverthorn
Therapist
I am a registered Master Practitioner of Clinical Counselling (M.P.C.C.) through the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association and a Clinical Therapist (C.T.) through the Association of Counselling Therapy in Alberta. I am the owner of/primary therapist at Tacit Knowledge, which is a counselling practice based in Beaumont, AB (we have a team of 6 - which includes a therapy office in Edmonton and in Sherwood Park). I have been a therapist for more than 30 years, and often work with clients who have specialized needs (First Responders, teaching staff, high risk offenders, Children’s Services families, etc).
Each of the therapists on our Team have extensive education and years of experience. This allows us to offer a number of specialty modalities including EMDR Therapy, Somatic Therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Neurofeedback Training/Therapy. We provide one-to-one counselling for youth and for adults; couples counselling; and parenting education/support. All of our services are covered by most insurance and EAP programs - and we partner with a couple of local Subsidy Support Programs, to help clients access the mental health services they need, even if finances are tight. We provide a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space for all of our clients - especially those who identify as part of the LGBTQ2AI+ community. And we honour and respect the diverse cultural differences that our clients share with us.
We typically provide services to clients who are struggling with issues related to complex trauma, relationship challenges, addictions, anger, low self esteem, anxiety, depression, and grief. We also offer support for sexual health, sexual intimacy in relationship, sexual diversity, transsexuality, and consensual non-monogamy/polyamory.
In addition to the direct therapy services we offer, we have also been writing a FREE regular mental health article (called "Dear Tacit") for the past 8 years or so - this article is featured weekly in newspapers and online news sites all across Canada, and even occasionally in the United States (you can read the articles on our website if you wish, under the Blog tab). We also offer a broad range of Professional Learning Sessions (all approved for Continuing Education Credits) for groups/agencies who want to strengthen their own skills in the mental health field, or who are interested in creating a healthier working environment within their own team. These Trainings are available via Zoom or in-person, all across Canada. And we offer community-based workshops and Therapy Support Groups for the public, on a monthly basis. Most of these monthly group programs/workshops are FREE, and are made available in partnership with various other community organizations.
My passion is to empower people as they face challenges and grow as individuals - as they address the issues in their lives that might be holding them back from the happiness and contentment they wish to experience. Please feel free to reach out to chat anytime - if I am not able to provide you with the support you need, I will help you connect to someone who is!
