Grant McMahon
Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC 11135)
I've spent over twelve years as a Registered Clinical Counsellor helping people navigate some of life's most challenging experiences—depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. What drew me to this work, and what keeps me engaged, is witnessing the genuine changes people make when they're given the right support and opportunities to heal.
My approach is grounded in both evidence and experience. I have extensive training in time-honoured and contemporary models of therapy that recognize how deeply interconnected our thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences are. This means our work together might involve exploring the beliefs that shape your worldview, developing a healthier relationship with your emotions, paying attention to what your body is telling you, and taking meaningful action toward the life you want. I draw from Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), gestalt therapy, psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory and research, developmental psychology, and body-centred methods—integrating what's most helpful for your unique situation.
I completed my Master of Counselling at City University of Seattle (Vancouver campus) and in addition to my private practice I have worked in diverse clinical settings, including Fraser Health Authority's mental health services and Family Services of Greater Vancouver. I've supported clients ranging in age from adolescents to older adults, and from varied cultural backgrounds and life circumstances. My experience has taught me that while everyone's story is different, most people need genuine connection, understanding, and practical tools in order to change. I am actively engaged in ongoing professional development, and I have a long-standing interest in how emotion shapes our attention, motivation, and capacity for growth.
I have over 12 years experience providing therapy virtually and since 2022 my practice has been exclusively online. This allows me to work with clients throughout British Columbia from the comfort of their own homes. Virtual therapy offers flexibility and accessibility while maintaining the depth and effectiveness of in-person work.
I believe real change is possible—not through quick fixes or unrealistic promises, but through sustained, collaborative effort. Together, we'll create space for you to understand yourself more clearly, develop resilience, and reconnect with what matters most in your life. I'm here to walk alongside you through this process. I offer all potential new clients a free 20 minute initial consultation so we can see if we are a fit working together. If you're looking for a therapist who combines deep clinical experience with genuine care, I'd be glad to hear from you.
