Leah Dhahan
Registered Clinical Counsellor
Welcome! Are you struggling to set boundaries and speak your truth in relationships? Are you currently experiencing feelings of anxiety, anger, or powerlessness in your life or relationships? Do you find yourself struggling with painful feelings and emotions? Would you like support for childhood trauma? I am here to help…My specialties include support for the following areas: anxiety, depression, self-esteem/self-worth, stress, anger management, emotion regulation/coping with emotions, communication, codependency, narcissistic abuse recovery, emotional abuse, grief and loss, relationship concerns, self-compassion work, and mindfulness skills.
Through my own personal journey with counselling, I understand and appreciate what it feels like to be in the client’s chair, and I prioritize building a therapeutic relationship that is built upon trust, safety, collaboration, unconditional positive regard, and care.
I believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives and that my role is to walk along side of you in a supportive way that helps you to grow, become empowered, and achieve the goals that are important to you on your therapeutic journey. My aim is to help you connect more to yourself and supportive others, grow in self-awareness and self-compassion, develop greater coping skills, achieve new insights, and develop into your full potential as a person. Everyone’s story is different and unique. I aim to hold a safe space for you that is based upon compassionate curiosity.
My approach to counselling is built upon person centered/humanistic therapy and I work from a trauma informed, holistic, compassion-focused, and strengths-based perspective. Depending on your needs and preferences, I weave in interventions from a variety of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gestalt, Internal Family Systems, and Inner Child Work. I also weave in mindfulness, self-compassion, and somatic techniques.
Treatment is based on your goals and is tailored to whatever feels best for you – depending on your own personal needs, goals, and preferences for therapy. Coming from a bi-cultural, mixed heritage background (Punjabi and German Mennonite Canadian), I have great respect and appreciation for cultural diversity and I aim to provide therapy that is culturally responsive, inclusive, and anti-oppressive. It is important for me to learn about your cultural and spiritual values and if relevant, weave in interventions that build upon your unique cultural/familial and/or spiritual values and strengths.
To make counselling more accessible, I offer some sliding scale spots. Feel free to email me for a free, twenty minutes consultation at [email protected] or visit my website at www.leahdhahancounselling.ca to learn more!
