Dr. Kate Hamilton
Clinical/Forensic Psychologist
I am a Canadian clinical and forensic psychologist, licensed with the College of Alberta Psychologists since 2004. I have a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Calgary (2003). I have experience working in community clinics, inpatient settings, correctional facilities, and private practice. I have many years of experience preparing pre-sentence court reports, providing psychological assessments, and conducting individual and group cognitive-behavioural therapy. I am a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA), and I have extensive experience in assessing and treating problematic sexual interests and behaviours. Over the years I have enjoyed supervising clinical staff, psychology interns, and practicum students. My research interests have focused on vulnerability to depression, group cognitive-behavioural therapy and mindfulness for mood and anxiety disorders, and more recently outcomes related to childhood adversity and correlates of child sexual exploitation material offending.
My primary therapeutic orientation is cognitive-behavioural, although I routinely blend approaches to meet my client's individual needs. I have training and experience with the following therapeutic approaches: Motivational Interviewing; Schema Therapy; Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT); Interpersonal Therapy; Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT); Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS); Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR); Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR); Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
My therapeutic style is warm, respectful, non-judgemental, and collaborative.
