Biography

About Me As a psychotherapist I am dedicated to improving the health and well being of my clients and it is my goal to make the therapeutic process as comfortable as possible. I work from a positive psychology perspective geared towards increasing confidence, self-esteem and helping you recognize your individual strengths. Whether you are interested in Short Term, Long Term, or a One time therapy session; I can assist with feelings of depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, stress management, grief and environmental stress associated with work, home life, and school. Everybody has a story and sometimes we need a little help to get over the hurdles in life from time to time. My work history entails 19 + years experience within the mental health field stemming from hospitalized care in an emergency department, On scene response with victim services york region (vol.) and lastly extensive counselling/case management experience with Dual diagnosis clients, Acquired/Traumatic Brain Injury clients & At Risk Children/Youth. Grief Counselling Grief is a personal experience and each individual experiences loss and transition(s) in their own unique way. Grief does not have a timeline. Grief can be experienced early on as well as resurface in waves year(s) later when the mourner is reminded of memorable events in life such as birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, shared activities, and so on. There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to grieve and it isn't a realistic expectation for someone to 'get over' or 'move on' with their loss. The more meaningful the bond and relationship, the greater likelihood that the mourner will feel a permanent change to self and life. This also includes layered grief experiences involving strained and estranged relationships. Grief Population(s) - Death of a parent, grandparent, primary caregiver, spouse/partner, sibling, friend, teacher, coach, extended family member(s). Situational Loss - Loss of a relationship, loss of connection, loss of identity/sense of self, loss of job, income, health, change of physical ability such as loss of mobility, loss of home, support network, retirement transitions. I'm here to listen, comfort, support, and help you find meaning in life. This doesn't mean the absence of pain or distress but rather individual/spiritual growth from having loved someone or something so deeply. Grief Can Be - Complicated, Delayed, Chronic, Minimized or Misunderstood (Disenfranchised), Piled Up (Several losses over a period of time) , Resurfaced when a current loss is a reminder of a past loss. Acknowledged Populations - Pets/Animals, Suicide, Traumatic unexpected Loss (Accidents), Perinatal loss, Disability, Missing loved ones, Loss from natural disasters, Anticipatory grief, Terminal Illness.
