Hitomi Yokota
Registered Psychotherapist (RP)
Accepting clients: Are you feeling anxious in relationships? Experiencing similar attachment injuries and repeated patterns? Hi, I’m Hitomi. I am a Psychotherapist and EMDR clinician specializing in relationship-based anxiety. I help people develop security in themselves and relationships: romantic, family, and friendships. The main concerns my clients come to me for include Anxious or Avoidant attachment styles, people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, conflicts with their loved ones, and childhood trauma. If you are struggling with how to create and maintain meaningful relationships and want to get more secure, I’m here.
I see you as a whole person. Not just how you think and feel, but also your environment, culture, and past experiences. I use an integrative approach based on your situation. The modalities I draw from are Attachment-based Therapy, Parts Work, EMDR, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, and Gottman Methods. These enable me to help you process through both mind and body.
Being a first-generation immigrant, a woman of colour, ESL, Queer-identifying, and the first in my family to pursue higher degrees, I know how being “different” can make us feel small. With my intersectional identities, I faced many obstacles in my life. Therapy was one of the best things that helped me get through this. I am grateful to be here, feeling more at peace with myself. My lived experience provides me with insights into how I can collaboratively work with my clients in an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed way, and I continue to educate myself on how I can be a better supporter and ally.
I’m a designer and researcher turned psychotherapist and have extensive experience working with underserved populations, such as immigrants, BIPOC, and 2SLGBTQIA+. I also have a background in the tech industry. As a Service Designer/User Experience Researcher, I have helped design citizen-centred government services for 10 years.
I recognize my privilege as a settler/newcomer to this land and am grateful to live and work in the traditional territory of various nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. I continue to learn the histories and cultures, as well as intergenerational trauma and oppression that Indigenous Peoples face.
